Mackay veteran golfers in Thailand

Mackay vets did well in the Thai competitions.

This year seven Vets from Mackay Golf Club went on Tour with the Australian Veteran Golf Association (AVGA) to Thailand March 10th – 29th. They played golf in Chiang Mai which is up in the mountains and Hua Hin down on the coast. All up they had 13 games on different golf courses, all of which were in wonderful condition. One particular golf course, Black Mountain, is played by the professionals in the European Tour rotation.

On the tour there were 30 players from all over Australia. A competition was held every day for both men and women with a ball rundown. At the completion of the tour an Awards Dinner was held, and prizes given out for the Overall Winner and then a rundown on the placings for both men and women. At Chiang Mai six games were played, with the best five games being counted and at Hua Hin seven games were played with the best six games being counted.

Mackay fared really well in the competition. David Hinder was the Overall winner at both Chiang Mai and Hua Hin. The rest of group had daily wins. The important thing was they all had a wonderful time.

On one of the free days, May and Neil Morris went elephant riding through the forest and river area north of Chiang Mai. At night there were the street markets and a multitude of restaurants to feast at. Between all the eating, drinking and shopping they were still able to fit in plenty of golf.

If any other Veterans in Mackay would like to experience this different, but most enjoyable golf holiday, either contact Bill Eccles or Jan Sidwell from AVGA.
