Hot on their heels were Pat Crompton (20 handicap), Les Bartlett (16) and Col Holdsworth (15) each with a total score of 138.

Although leading after Round 1, Glynn Ford was unable to repeat his initial score of 65, only able to shoot a 79 in Round 2 to drop out of contention. Ray Cook also had a day to forget, a 77 in Round 2 to go with his initial 66 leaving him also several shots off the pace.

Top score of the day was by Joe Hong – playing off 18, Joe shot a superb 64 nett, but was not in the Championships, having not played in Round 1. Best Gross of the day was a score of 75 off-the-stick, returned by both Kev Dalton and Steve Harris.

In the Ladies Championship event, Debra McCowan scored 38 Stableford Points in the second round to combine with her first round 34, a total of 72, to head off May Scott-Morris by two points for the Champion’s spot. Debra was sitting in a tie for 4th with 3 others after Round 1, but charged to the front with the 2-points better-than-par Round 2.

However, May Scott-Morris (playing off 22) was able to hold on to second place with 34 points combining with her earlier 36, finishing with a total 70 just 2 points behind Debra.

First round leader, Susanne Mogg, was unable to play in Round 2. In third place and also poised to challenge after Round 1, Veronica Dempsey was only able to put together a score of 27 points in Round 2, not enough to stay at the top of the field.

In winning the Championships, Debra also shot the top score of the day, with Sherry Ison and Margaret Brown each returning 37 points to tie second best scores.

The Championships were 36 hole events, the men playing Single Stroke and the ladies playing Single Stableford. Championship winners and runners-up were determined by adding a player’s nett scores for Day 1 and Day 2.
