Ayr Veterans Tournament Results
A strong team from Mackay travelled to Ayr for the Ayr Golf Club’s 2020 Ayr Veterans Golf Tournament, a 36 Hole single stableford played over two days on Monday & Tuesday 27th & 28th July 2020.
Our team consisted of seven gentlemen and eight ladies, in a record field in recent times for Ayr’s Veterans Open of 64 gentlemen and 53 ladies. Players came from as far afield as Cairns and Mareeba to the North and South to Bargara, Burrum District and Maryborough.
According to Tournament Director Rhonda, everything came together to produce a great tournament – record numbers, course in great condition and “weather – Divine”.
Although our team thoroughly enjoyed the trip, none were able to find their top game over the two days to feature in the overall Championships trophy list. However, Maryann Harrigan top-scored with 36 points for the A Grade Ladies in Round 1. This score was also the leading score for the Mackay group over the two days, joined by Veronica Dempsey on Day 2. Best Championship score for the Mackay group was 65 by both Michelle Ahmad and Joy Hold.
The top score for the carnival (72 points) was recorded by Peter Henderson (B Grade – Ayr) off a handicap of 23 and Noala Everett (B Grade – Charters Towers) off a handicap of 39. Top A Grade scores were: gentlemen – Bernie Goldie (Townsville, handicap 17), 71 points, and ladies – Dianne Gees (Maryborough, handicap 17) and Janice Dillon (Magnetic Island, handicap 22), both scoring 71. Best 18 hole score for the gentlemen was 38 points by Peter Henderson in Round 2, and for the ladies, Lynette Haller (Townsville, handicap 26) and Evelyn Webb (Ayr, handicap 33) both scored 39 points.
