Interclub Shield is Back in 2021

The Interclub Challenge Shield is back in 2021 after being cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The Mackay & District Veteran Golfers Shield is a four round inter-club competition between the four clubs in the Mackay and District Veterans Golf Association – Mackay, Pioneer Valley, Sarina and Black Springs. Each club fields a team of players in each day’s Single Stableford competition, and the best 8 scores from each team is summated to be the team’s score for the day. The lowest total score over the four rounds determines the winner of the shield.

The four rounds of the 2021 Shield competition have been scheduled:

  • Sarina – Thursday 22nd April
  • Black Springs – Monday 17th May
  • Mackay – Monday 28 June
  • Pioneer Valley – Thursday 15th July

Normally, each round starts with a shotgun start at 9:30 am followed by a light lunch after the event. The actual program will be advised closer to the event. Note that as many players from each club as wish are welcome to play, however the host club may restrict the number of players from other clubs depending on the capacity of the course.

The Shield event was cancelled in 2020 due to COVID-19, but Mackay was the winner in 2019 with 1177 points, Sarina second with 1170 points, Black Springs third with 1136 points and Pioneer Valley with 1086.

Captain Greg is confident that the strength of our members puts us in a good position to retain the Shield in 2021.
