Nominations Closed for Interclub Shield – Mackay Round.

Nominations are now closed for Mackay Vets to be part of our team to contest the third round of the MADVGA Interclub Challenge Shield at the Mackay Golf Course on Monday 28th June 2021.

The event is a Medley Single Stableford, and each of the four Clubs in the Association will field as many players as available, subject to any field size restrictions on the host golf course. As well as the daily prizes, the best 8 scores from each club then go towards that Club’s score for the round. The club with the highest aggregate after the four rounds will take home the Shield for this year.

The day’s play will commence with a shotgun start at 9:30 am, with a light lunch following the event. The competition fee for the round, including lunch, is $30.

Mackay was the winner of the Shield in 2019 with 1177 points, Sarina second with 1170 points, Black Springs third with 1136 points and Pioneer Valley with 1086. There was no competition for the Shield in 2020 due to COVID-19.

This year, Sarina took out the lead after the first round, by 20 points from Mackay, but Black Springs stormed into the lead after the second round on their home course. Mackay will need to play well on their home course to make up the 21 point deficit. Captain Greg is encouraging as many members as possible to join the Vets from the other three Clubs for this round of the Interclub Challenge. He is confident that the strength of our members puts us in a good position to overcome the deficit and retain the Shield in 2021.

The fourth and final round of the Shield for 2021 will be hosted by Pioneer Valley Vets on Thursday 15th July.
