The 18-hole par 72 layout, with a slope rating of 120, is unique in that it is basically a links-style course, with wide fairways, few trees and lots of strategically placed bunkers. Water is a feature of almost every hole, and it is a rare day that the wind does not affect play, but one important benefit is that it keeps golfers cool in even the warmest weather.
The course is a classic risk versus reward layout. Each hole provides a safe option where a bogey – sometimes a par – is almost certain. But the course also tempts the adventurous and ambitious to squeeze a few more metres out of the drive, or to take on a devilishly placed pin. In the distance, iconic Mount Coolum dominates the skyline, keeping an imposing eye on the play. All in all, a magnificent spectacle.
You can download nomination forms (men and women use different forms) from the Queensland Veteran Golf Union web site www.qvgu.com.au – click on these links: Men’s Nomination Form and Women’s Nomination Form.

The Mackay Veterans Summer Golf mixed events were well supported, apart from a couple of days where the weather interfered. In fact a record number of 99 players contested the final event of the series. Consequently the Committee has again scheduled similar mixed events in the calendar for the 2019-20 summer.

Special personalised tours can be arranged as listed in the “MORE TO DO” section of the website.

Forty-four members attended the Annual General Meeting of the Mackay Veteran Golfers Association Inc. on Monday 8th October 2018.
Only one nomination was received for each of the executive positions, those people being declared elected to the relevant position:
Duncan Robertson and Elspit Mulherin were again appointed as Patron and Patroness respectively of the Association for the year 2018/19.
The Secretary also advised that Lex Flack had agreed to serve on the the Mackay & District Veteran Golfers Association, replacing Bob Boyd.
Greg Mulhall also advised that all members are welcome to join in the regular working bee known as Dad’s Army, that meets at the golf course on Wednesday mornings for 3 hours from about 6 am. The volunteers perform a variety of tasks and save the Club tens of thousands of dollars each year. We still need new people to come and help, so if you are reasonably fit and would like to start helping, contact Greg Mulhall and he will explain everything about the work that is carried out by Dad’s army. Even if you can’t commit to every Wednesday or to the full time span, I am sure Greg would be able to discuss various options with you.
As we are now into a new financial year, annual membership subscriptions of $10 are now due and Secretary Pat will start collecting these as from next Monday so don’t forget to bring along an extra $10.
If you can, it would be appreciated if you would pay the $10 subscription by direct credit into the Veteran’s bank account at BOQ, the details of which are:- BSB: 124-954 Account: 22614381.
